Curly Silm is an intriguing hybrid air plant that shows characterisics of both parents. It has curly leaves and a swollen base which are similar to streptophylla, but the slim shape and flower stem of Tillandsia intermedia that is capable of producing pups. The thick, curly leaves tend to curl back on themselves into spirals, giving the plant a comical, curly-whirly appearance.
This plant can in time get very large and make great twisted, curly specimens. It likes high light levels and regular misting with good air-movement, grow quite large to 8-10" tall
In the wild, Tillandsia (like orchids) absorb water through their aerial roots so it is very important not to over water them. In fact the drier you keep these plants the more dramatic their curls! From spring until autumn, water with no more than ¼ of a teacup of water once a week allowing them to dry out completely before watering again. Alternatively, you can mist the leaves a couple of times a week and they will absorb the water this way.
Light: Likes high light levels. Keep this plant away from direct sunlight as this will cause the plant to develop burn marks.
Water: Give the foliage a misting with filtered water or rain water on a regular basis.
Care:The plant tends to become curlier if it is kept on the dry-side.When conditions are right, it can produce a long, pink spike that can then provide offsets.
