Calathea Oppenheimiana Compact Star 70 cm
The Calathea Oppenheimiana will become the centrepiece of your home. Its long stems and purple foliage brings a modern and uncomparable artistic look.
Lovely lined and shaped red-green leaves. That close at night. And open up again in the morning. The eye-catching 'Compact Star' also purifies the air! They make lovely indoor plants for your home, at school or in the office. This jungle plant needs high humidity. Always keep the soil moist, without letting the plant stand in water. Spray the leaves at least once per week. This prevents the leaf edges from drying out. Place the plant in (partial) shade. Not only decorative, but also healthy!
Light: Bright, indirect light. Will tolerate some degree of shade; however insufficient light may cause loss of variegation in the leaves. Too much light on the other hand will cause the leaves to fade.
Water: Keep soil moist at all times. Allow the top of the soil to dry out slightly before watering.
Temperature: Normal room temperatures from 16-24°C but can cope with as low as 13°C.
Humidity: High humidity levels are an advantage. Stand on a wet pebble tray to improve humidity and mist frequently.
Feeds: Apply a weak dose of a liquid fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.
Care tips: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove accumulated dust. Do not use leaf shine as this will damage the foliage.
Toxicity: Considered slightly poisonous. Keep away from children and animals and take care when handling.
Origin: Tropical Brazil.
