Ficus ginseng, also known as the "Ginseng Ficus" or "Ficus microcarpa," is a popular bonsai tree species. It is native to Southeast Asia, particularly China and India.

The Ficus ginseng has distinctive features that make it a sought-after bonsai tree.

Its most prominent characteristic is its thick, bulbous trunk, which often appears twisted or contorted. The trunk is covered with a smooth, light gray bark that gradually turns darker and develops fissures with age. The tree has dense, dark green, glossy leaves that are oval-shaped and tapering at the tip. Its aerial roots hang down from the branches, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Ficus ginseng bonsai trees are an ideal gift for loved ones due to their symbolic representation of qualities such as resilience, wisdom, patience, balance, and connection to nature. Gifting a Ficus ginseng bonsai expresses your desire for your loved ones to possess these meaningful qualities, showing your appreciation for their strength and ability to find harmony in life's journey.

Light: prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some partial shade. Harsh, direct sunlight may burn the leaves.

Water: Water when the soil starts to become slightly dry at the top. Keep the soil moist at all times, but do not over water as this will cause leaf drop.

Temperature: Ideal temperatures are 16-24°C. Avoid cold draughts.

Humidity: No specific requirements, although the occasional misting wouldn't go amiss.

Feed: Apply a weak dose of a fertiliser once or twice a month during the growing season.

Care tips: Insufficient light or incorrect watering can trigger leaf drop. Adjust as necessary and your plant should quickly recover. Trim to maintain shape, but be aware that sticky latex will ooze from the ends of the cut stems. This can be an irritant, therefore wash your hands immediately if any comes into contact with your skin.

Air Purifying: This plant filters airborne toxins and is part of our clean air plant collection.

Toxicity: Considered poisonous, therefore keep away from children and animals.

Origin: India and Malaysia.
