The Medinilla magnifica, like the name suggests, is quite magnificent. It’s one of the most graceful and stylish flowering plants you can grow indoors. Its dramatic, rose pink hanging flowers will add a pop of colour to any windowsill through spring and summer and in the winter months the glossy green foliage will come into its own.

Please be aware that the plants you receive may not be in full bloom; nevertheless, they all already boast unfurled flowers.

Light: the Medinilla can be placed in almost any room of the house, but it is not recommended to place it in direct sunlight. Also, keep in mind to place the plant far enough from a window where direct sunlight enters the room. In winter, the plant can simply stand in direct sunlight.

Water: Water your Medinilla when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry. Make sure it's not sitting in water.The soil can be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings, and avoid standing water.

Humidity: high humidity is a must. It's a good idea to use a humidity monitor near your plant, rather than guess. Indoor air can become extremely dry during the winter months. If the relative humidity drops below 60%, use a cool-mist room humidifier or set the plant on a tray of wet pebbles. 

Origin: Medinilla is native to the Philippines and grows wild in South-East Asia, the Pacific and tropical Africa. It’s an epiphyte, which means that the plant grows on the branches of a tree without drawing nutrients from it. The plant has been known since the middle of the nineteenth century, when it was first described by the English collector J. H. Veitch.

Flowering: You’ll have beautiful pink flowers spring/summer and luscious green leaves through winter (but you have to keep it inside). 

Toxicity: Medinilla plants are generally considered non-toxic to humans and pets. However, it's important to note that individual sensitivities and allergies can vary, so it's always a good idea to exercise caution when introducing any new plant into your home or around pets.

Did you know ? : In Belgium in the 1900’s Medinilla magnifica was coveted by the wealthy and noble and grown in royal conservatories. It was also printed on the 10,000 Belgian francs bank note.
