Aporocactus Mallisonii His name 'Aporocactus' comes from the Greek for "Cactus that is not penetrable". This genus has been merged recently into Discocactus.

Aporocactus is a genus of epiphytic cacti from Mexico's high land plateaus. In the wild, they grow on trees or rocks. In cultivation, standard cactus mix is adequate to grow them, but they look better in baskets. Aporocactus are propagated by cuttings.

They will not tolerate any frost. They strive in shade. They turn yellow and stunted if they have too much sun.

Aporocactus blooms in early spring. The large 2-inches long (5 cm) flowers last several days, and are pollinated by hummingbirds.

Plants of the genus Aporocactus are cacti characterized by the numerous, long stems that generally have creeping lobe that descend softly from the vases, creating a wonderful waterfall effect. Each stem is covered with very light ribs, so that the appearance is almost as regular cylinders. The thorns are small, numerous, whitish and mostly soft.
